Safe Driving Tips During the Holidays
Safe Driving Tips During the Holidays
Posted on December 16, 2022
We all travel a lot during the holidays. Here are some tips to do so safely in the winter weather.
- Drive Sober: It is normal to have a few alcoholic beverages or share cannabis when gathering during the holidays. If you consume any products, do not drive.
- Be Alert: Gatherings with friends and family can be long and often end late at night. Make sure you are well-rested and alert when you get behind the wheel.
- See and Be Seen: Make sure you remove any and all snow from your vehicle (windows, hood, roof, and lights) to keep visibility clear for yourself and other drivers. Also, make sure that your lights are on so it is easier to see your surroundings – and for others to see you.
- Don’t Rush: There will be turkey waiting for you no matter what time you arrive. Don’t rush to get somewhere “on time”. Speeding during high traffic times will only lead to an accident, especially in the roads are covered in snow and slush.
- Don’t Panic: Even careful and experienced drivers can skid and have difficulty braking. In the event your vehicle has difficulty braking, don’t panic. Remain calm, and don’t abruptly react.
- Be Prepared: In the event of an accident, be prepared. Always keep a roadside emergency kit in the vehicle. Kits should include, a blanket, candles, road flares, a first aid kit, a flashlight, and booster cables. You should also always keep your phone charged in a place it can be easily accessed in case of an emergency.
Make sure to stay safe, this holiday season!
